From Research to Innovation

Lessons learnt from the FP7 NMP Materials Call 2013: “Substantial steps forward in the industrial use of European intellectual assets, stimulating the use of newly developed materials”

A workshop was held on June 27th 2013, Brussels with experts from the materials sector, industry, academia , finance and patent offices to discuss the recent FP7 NMP Materials Call on innovation and to draw conclusions and lessons for the future. The following are the observations of the experts participating. Topics included: Intellectual Property; Technology and Manufacturing Readiness Levels; Business Plan; Future Innovation.

European Research and Innovation in Materials Science and Engineering

Towards a Prioritisation of Research Topics

The third Materials Summit in May 2013 also had representatives from Member States as observers, and discussed methodologically and more in detail possible “champions”, i.e. examples of the topics that represent the best “value for money” in terms of expected impact of research and innovation carried out at the level of the European Research Area in materials science and engineering.

Forward Looking Workshop on

Materials for Emerging Energy Technologies

The Materials Unit of the European Commission (DG Research and Innovation, Directorate "Industrial Technologies") organised a workshop in Brussels on the 28th of October 2011 entitled "Forward Looking Workshop on Materials for Emerging Energy Technologies". The aim of the workshop was to identify research and evelopment of new materials that support emerging low carbon energy technologies for market deployment by 2050.
